What is an SOA and why do you need one?

SOA stands for Statement of Accuracy and is basically a warrant of fitness for your database. It only applies to address fields and post codes. Once gained it is valid for one year. Your database needs to be 85% accurate (matched) to the Postal Address File. If you want to qualify for bulk mail discount from NZ Post - you will need one of these (an SOA).

If you have a small database (less than 1000) and mail infrequently, you will need to work out whether it is cost effective to bring your address data up to the NZ Post standard - ie is the discount worth it?

How do you get an SOA?

In summary - if you want bulk discount for mailing, you will now need:

1. An official SOA (Statement of Accuracy)
2. A NZ Post account (or you can use your Mail House's)
3. The correct qualifying mail volume
4. Database in Post code sorted order
5. Addressing & layout to NZ Post Standards
6. Typically delivered in NZ Post trays (grey plastic trays)
